Terms and Conditions

Thank you for printing with us!

The following are guidelines for printing with the risograph duplicator and what you can expect from us.

By printing with us you’re agreeing to and acknowledging all of the following info.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The following are some common quirks of the risograph printing process:

  • Ink smudges
Risograph ink uses soy or rice bran oil as its substrate. Because of this, the ink never full dries. A dense application of ink can cause smudging on hands and prints. We do our best to mitigate smudging but you can do your part in the design process by steering clear of large area of dense ink and keeping the darkest parts of your design to 70-90% black.

  • Registration
Registration will not be perfect and will vary from print to print. While we can keep the margin of error of low, it is best to consider this in your design and use trapping, loose registration, or adjusting your expectations. Thin lines of different colors on top of each other can be really difficult to register.

  • Roller marks
The paper is fed through the machine use a double rubber pick up roller system. These rollers run down the middle of the paper and can pick up small amounts of ink while printing multiple colors. Try to avoid dense ink coverage going down the middle of your print (especially for over 2 colors or double sided prints.) The good news is that these marks can be easily erased with a white eraser.

  • Uneven ink coverage
Dense coverage of ink can create tide lines. This is when ink pools and buckles the paper. We have ways to mitigate this but like with most other quirks of riso printing, avoiding dense ink areas is the best way around this.

quotes and payment

  • Quotes
Good for 3 months and can be revised at any time to reflect changes in the scope of the project. Any unexpected costs associated with the project will be discussed with you before production moves forward.

  • Tax
Quotes include any tax. The current tax rate for Seattle is 10.1%

  • Deposits
We require a 50% deposit due before production begins or before ordering specialty paper.

  • Payments
We accept Venmo, Square Cash, Paypal, checks, cash, and credit card.

pre-production

  • Proofs

Masters, which is the stencil created for each color layer in a print, cannot be reused. It is the most resource intensive part of the risograph printing process. Because of this, we only offer printed proofs on request for a fee. We can provide you a digital proof, which you can use for color approximation and to triple check for errors. By approving the digital soft proof and paying the deposit, you have accepted full responsibility for the order and agree that the information and images provided to you are what you want. Once approved by you, any changes or reprints thereafter will be at your expense.

  • File prep
Take a look at our riso printing page for basic information on file prep. Our print services include basic prepress necessary for properly printing your project, including crop marks and imposition. Color separations are the responsibility of the artist. If your project requires additional file prep or if you need help converting your files into grayscale, separating color layers, etc. we are more than happy to help you at a $45/hr fee.

You are responsible for sending us correctly prepared files. This means that the files you send to us should be sized to the desired final print size, at 300-600 dpi, the proper orientation, include at least a 1/4” image bleed if you have bleed images and/or accommodates the 3/8” unprintable margin for prints at full paper size. We also request a full color proof, so we know what you are expecting. If you have any concerns about your files, please contact us before you submit. We take care extra care to make sure that your final prints are what you want, which includes thoroughly going through your files and asking you questions if problems arise.

  • Page count

It is your responsibility to correctly let us know the total page count in your book project at the time of quote request. We price book projects as “price per print page (pp)”, meaning that every page that has content is a “print page.” This does not mean the total number of pieces of paper or spreads. If you sent us files with an incorrect page count, it may result in a higher cost and/or delay in production.

production schedule

  • Turn around time
When you fill out a quote request, please inform us of your project deadline. While we do our best to accommodate your schedule, our print schedule can fluctuate depending a number of factors. Our current turn around time is 3-4 weeks for prints and 6-8 weeks for book projects. This may change if your project requires ordering special paper or binding supplies.

  • Rush printing
If your project requires a shorter turnaround time, your project will be subject to a 25% rush fee.

Rush fee applied if finished books are needed less than 3 weeks after file delivery and less than 1 week for finished prints after file delivery.

NOTE: 2 week turnaround time for books is our minimum.

shipping

  • Shipping costs are calculated after the project is finished and packed. We will send you a shipping quote before we send and provide you with a tracking number once mailed.

  • We pack your projects with the utmost care. Any damage to your prints should be immediately reported to us and to the carrier.

  • We typically prefer to ship via USPS Priority Mail.
