Check out Seattle’s thriving indie comics scene on an immersive tour of the Georgetown neighborhood with the artists and owners of Paper Press Punch, and design and print your own mini-comic. We welcome all skill levels and ages—we’ve hosted participants as young as five!
• Start at Paper Punch Press for an introduction and guided exploration of Short Run Comix Festival’s library, featuring alternative comics, small press, and self-published artists from the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
• Create your own mini-comic with our expert guidance, and print it using our special Risograph printers, which use a stencil-based method that delivers rich colors and a handmade feel.
• Stroll down to renowned comic book store Fantagraphics for a guided shopping experience with owner Larry Reid, where you’ll browse rare, independent, and iconic comics while hearing stories from this legendary curator.
You’ll leave with your unique DIY comic, deep insights into the independent comic world in Seattle, and new creative skills to use at home.

Join us for an intensive two-day workshop designed specifically for printmakers looking to explore the art of risograph printing. This comprehensive session will delve into the technical and creative aspects of the risograph process, from mark making techniques and layering methods to selecting the best paper and inks for your projects. Participants will receive hands-on instruction, gaining practical experience with the risograph and troubleshooting common issues. Over the two days, you'll have the opportunity to create a series of prints, experiment with various artistic effects, and collaborate with fellow printmakers. By the end of the workshop, you'll have a portfolio of unique risograph prints and a deep understanding of how to leverage this versatile medium in your printmaking practice.
